6 Ways To Surrender Yourself To Jesus In A Broken World

In a world filled with uncertainty, pain, and brokenness, surrendering ourselves to Jesus offers a path to peace and purpose.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." ROMANS 12:2

Understanding Surrender

Surrendering to Jesus means letting go of our own control and trusting Him with our lives. It involves acknowledging that we are not sufficient on our own and that we need His guidance and strength. This act of surrender is both a moment and a process. It begins with a conscious decision to follow Jesus and continues as a daily practice of yielding our will to His.

The Brokenness Around Us

The world we live in is undeniably broken. From global conflicts to personal struggles, pain and suffering are ubiquitous. This brokenness often stems from human sin and the inherent imperfection of our world. However, it's in this very brokenness that Jesus' message of redemption and restoration shines most brightly.

Why Surrender?

1. PEACE AMIDST CHAOS

Jesus offers peace that transcends understanding. In John 14:27, He says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Surrendering to Jesus allows us to experience this divine peace, even when circumstances are chaotic.

2. PURPOSE AND DIRECTION

Surrendering to Jesus gives our lives meaning and direction. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” When we surrender, we align ourselves with God’s purpose for our lives, which is infinitely greater than any plan we could devise on our own.

3. STRENGTH IN WEAKNESS

Acknowledging our own weakness is the first step towards receiving God’s strength. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Surrendering to Jesus means we don’t have to rely on our own limited strength but can draw on His limitless power.

How to Surrender

1. PRAYER AND REFLECTION

Start by communicating with God. Prayer is a powerful tool for surrender. It’s a time to express your fears, hopes, and desires to God and to listen for His guidance.

2. STUDYING SCRIPTURE

The Bible is God’s word and offers wisdom and encouragement. Regularly reading and meditating on scripture helps us understand God’s character and His plans for us.

3. WORSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP

Engaging in worship and connecting with other believers can reinforce our commitment to Jesus. Fellowship provides support and accountability, reminding us that we are part of a larger body of Christ.

4. LETTING GO

Surrendering means releasing our grip on things we cannot control and trusting Jesus to handle them. This might involve relinquishing our plans, forgiving others, or moving past our fears.

5. OBEDIENCE

True surrender is reflected in our actions. Following Jesus means obeying His teachings and allowing Him to lead our decisions and lifestyle.

The Impact of Surrender

Surrendering to Jesus doesn't remove us from the brokenness of the world, but it transforms how we navigate it. It enables us to live with hope, joy, and resilience. It equips us to be agents of change and vessels of God's love in a hurting world.
